On the way from taiga to tundra and in what felt like the middle of nowhere in Sweden, we suddenly came across a house where coffee, reindeer products and fish was being offered, among other things. It felt almost a bit like in The Café at the Edge of the World. Do you know that book by John Strelecky? I found it a very good book and actually already read it twice. It is a story about the meaning of life.

Anyway, I stopped spontaneously and first enjoyed the beautiful surroundings by the river. This was the region of the Sámi, an indigenous people in the north of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and neighboring Russia. 

In the house, an elderly gentleman sat at a table drinking coffee and bent over a crossword. He welcomed us and gestured for us to come in. Apart from greetings, we spoke no Swedish and certainly no Sami. There was a pot of filter coffee on the hot plate at the buffet and some kind of coconut cake on a plate. We ordered two cups of coffee and a piece of cake. He had to go and get the milk for the coffee first, though. It was probably not that busy up here. Too bad, because this is a coffee stop of a special kind.
