Fruit plays a central role in my diet, which is perhaps why I am so fascinated when I see it develop and grow. I notice how they keep popping up here in our Rendezvous with the Earth‘s abundance. It is not planned, you know, because every week I just follow my intuition when it comes to what to share with you next. Do you like to eat fruit? I truly heard of people who do not, so I rather ask.

Remember the citrus trees in Italy, the stunning strawberry tree in Sardinia or the bananas in Uganda? All three posts are available for free. If you have not read them yet or would like to share them with someone, now is a good chance.

Today I would like to show you pictures of a much smaller fruit. It is a berry and, incredibly, it belongs to the same plant family as the strawberry tree. The heath family, Ericaceae.

A pine forest where the ground is covered by today‘s member of the heath family: the blueberry. // Ein Föhrenwald, in dem der Boden komplett mit dem Heidekrautgewächs des heutigen Beitrags bedeckt ist: der Heidelbeere.

However, it grows in completely different places and, with a maximum height of 60 cm, remains much smaller than the strawberry tree, which is several meters tall.

I would say that today‘s fruit is also a sign that we are slowly but surely approaching fall in the northern hemisphere.

The blueberry, Vaccinium myrtillus.
